Metal technician – mechanical engineering & electrical engineer – plant and operational engineering

What does a metal technician do?

This job is all about metals, machines and tools. Your tasks range from metalworking and the manufacture of components and finished metal products to the production and monitoring of entire machines and systems.

During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to process metals and other materials using various
Techniques such as drilling, sawing, bending, welding, soldering, gluing, turning, milling and much more
processed, used special tools and maintained and repaired machines.

What does an electrical engineer do?

As an electrical engineer, you have a wide range of tasks: you plan, assemble, install, maintain and repair a wide variety of electrical and electronic devices and systems, such as high and low voltage systems, control and regulation systems, alarm systems, monitoring systems, electric doors and gates, electrical building installations (power lines), electrical machines, and even industrial machines and systems Depending on your specialty, you work in workshops and workshops, with customers, on construction sites or in the office.

An excerpt of your future tasks:
  • Reading and preparing technical documents, sketches, working drawings, circuit diagrams and operating instructions
  • Planning and coordinating workflows
  • Procurement, selection and inspection of work equipment and materials
  • Application of metalworking processes such as drilling, turning, milling, grinding, bending, soldering, punching and perforating
  • Carrying out various welding techniques (e.g. gas fusion, electric and inert gas welding)
  • Regular maintenance and service work on machines and production facilities
  • Detect, isolate and eliminate errors, defects and malfunctions in machines and systems
  • Maintain operating records, maintenance records and technical documents.
  • Installation, commissioning and testing of measuring equipment, components and
    Components of control and regulation technology as well as hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Calibration of measuring instruments and sensors
  • Controlling and programming industrial robots
  • Production of detachable and non-detachable connections, e.g., using screws, pins, clamps, soldering and plug connections
  • Planning, installation and maintenance of electronic devices and systems
  • Checking and troubleshooting electronic devices and systems
  • Compliance with relevant safety regulations (e.g. Machinery Safety Ordinance, Electromagnetic Compatibility Ordinance)
  • Ensuring compliance with norms, environmental and quality standards
  • Carrying out quality controls and participating in quality management
