Dual apprenticeship: Mechatronics technician – Automation technology, Electrical technician – Plant and industrial engineering

At our training center in Friesach (Carinthia), we offer our apprentices in-depth theoretical and practical training. You can put the theoretical knowledge you have acquired at school into practice every day. From day one, you’ll be a valuable part of our team and gradually grow into your diverse areas of responsibility.

What does a mechatronics engineer do?

During your apprenticeship as a mechatronics engineer, you will learn how to read technical plans, how to assemble assemblies and components into machines and systems, how to program mechatronic systems and how to configure these systems.

As a mechatronics engineer for automation technology, you will work in design offices, workshops and production halls in a team with colleagues and other specialists from the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, IT and mechanical engineering. You will also be on site with customers for assembly, adjustment and service work.

What does an electrical engineer do?

As an electrical engineer, you have a wide range of tasks: you plan, assemble, install, maintain and repair a wide variety of electrical and electronic devices and systems, such as high and low voltage systems, control and regulation systems, alarm systems, monitoring systems, electric doors and gates, electrical building installations (power lines), electrical machines, and even industrial machines and systems Depending on your specialty, you work in workshops and workshops, with customers, on construction sites or in the office.

An excerpt of your future tasks:
  • Install, configure, commission, test and document automation systems in mechatronic systems
  • Systematically locate, isolate and eliminate errors, defects and faults in the automation systems
  • Maintain, service and repair automation systems
  • Modify, expand and optimize mechatronic systems and automation systems according to specifications and plans
  • Install, commission and test measuring equipment, bus systems, components and assemblies of control and regulation technology, hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Calibrating measuring devices and sensors
  • Controlling and programming industrial robots (e.g. using PLC)
  • Carry out process planning and work planning: define work steps, work equipment and work methods
  • Prepare sketches and simple standardized technical drawings and circuit diagrams, also using computer-aided systems and special computer programs (e.g. CAD – Computer Aided Design)
  • Applying craft techniques and processes; processing materials by sawing, drilling, grinding, filing, threading, etc.
  • Establish detachable and non-detachable connections, e.g. using screws, pins, clamps, soldering and plug connections
  • Read and use technical documents such as sketches, drawings, circuit diagrams, operating instructions, etc.
  • Clean and maintain the equipment, tools, machines, measuring and testing equipment and work aids used
  • In all work, take into account the relevant safety regulations (e.g. Machine Safety Ordinance, Electromagnetic Compatibility Ordinance), standards as well as environmental and quality standards
  • Quality management and quality control
  • Planning, installing and maintaining electronic devices and systems
  • Checking faults in electronic devices and systems
