What are the duties of a metal fabricator?

This profession involves metals, machines, and tools. Your work ranges from metalworking and manufacturing components and finished metal products to the construction and monitoring of entire machines and systems.

During your training, you’ll learn how metals and other materials are formed through various techniques such as drilling, sawing, bending, welding, soldering, gluing, lathing, milling, etc., as well as the use of special tools and the maintenance and repair of machines.

Examples of your future tasks:

  • Read and sometimes produce technical documents, sketches, and technical drawings
  • Plan and coordinate work processes
  • Procure, select, and inspect necessary work materials
  • Use metalworking processes such as drilling, lathing, milling, sanding, bending, soldering, punching, etc.
  • Use various welding techniques such as fusion, electric, and gas metal arc welding
  • Observe safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental standards
  • Carry out regular maintenance and servicing of machines and production systems
  • Locate, isolate, and eliminate faults, defects, and malfunctions in machines and systems
  • Maintain operating logs, technical documentation, assembly instructions, operating instructions, and maintenance and service records
